It is officially time for the beach! Memorial Day marks the start of an exciting season in North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands as the summertime fun ramps up with dozens of events in the area. From live music concerts to summer markets, there is plenty to do for both locals and visitors. Memorial Day Ceremonies 

VFW Calabash Post #7288 will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 27, 2024 at 11 a.m.

The Sunset Beach Committee to Honor America's Veterans and the Town of Sunset Beach will hold a ceremony in Sunset Beach Town Park on May 27, 2024 at 10 a.m. to honor fallen military service members. The ceremony will include an honor guard and keynote address. 

The Richard H. Steward Jr. American Legion Post of 543 of St. James will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at the St. James Community Center on May 27, 2024. 

The nearby Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington will hold its annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony on May 27, 2024 at 4 p.m. on the battleship's fantail. The ceremony will include a military guest speaker, all-service color guard, a 21-gun salute by a Marine Corp Honor Guard, and a wreath casting ceremony. Complimentary admission begins at 3 p.m. 


Local Outdoor Concerts

In NC’s Brunswick Islands the sounds of summer include the sound of live music. Many of our charming coastal towns and island communities mark the Memorial Day weekend as the start of their summer concert series. With free concerts almost every day of the week, you can expect to dance your heart out and enjoy great local music across the Brunswick Islands.
