NC 4th of July Festival and Fireworks
Historic Downtown Southport and Oak Island
For over 220 years, Southport has celebrated our nation's Independence in a big way, and they invite you to join the celebration! Southport's celebration of our nation's independence was first recorded in a newspaper in 1795 and has continued for two centuries. Incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival in 1972, the festival remembers the sacrifices, celebrates freedom, and promotes family fun.
The N.C. 4th of July Festival is held annually in the City of Southport and in 2022 many events were held in Oak Island. The festivities kick off on July 1 with the traditional Oak Island Beach Day. Beach Day includes games, music and food and end with a bang with fireworks. Other festival events include: Reading of the Declaration of Independence, Flag Raising Ceremony, Flag Retirement Ceremony, Classic Car Show, Parade, Arts and Crafts Market, Music and Entertainment, Freedom Flotilla and more fireworks.
