SHALLOTTE, NC (August 15, 2018) Summer might be winding down, but that doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop in North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands! The Brunswick Islands offers visitors and residents year-round adventures that appeal to guests of all ages and interests.

Equipped with secluded beaches, mild temperatures, natural phenoniums and festivals for the whole family to enjoy, fall Is the perfect time to explore the Brunswick Islands. From sunrise and sunset watching to annual oyster festivals, the Brunswick Island continues to provide guests with non-stop entertainment that goes beyond relaxing by the beach.

Adding to the excitement, a natural phenomenon takes place in the Brunswick Islands from Fall to early Spring. The uniquely south-facing beaches allow visitors to enjoy picturesque vistas of sunrises and sunsets over the ocean.

Annual Oak Island Art Guild Arts & Craft Festival

Enjoy over 100 artists and craft vendors at the 28th Annual Oak Island Art Guild Arts & Crafts Festival. Venture through vendors who will show and sell their handmade wares such as fine art, pottery, stained glass, woodcarvings, photography and much more! Food vendors will be offering a variety of sandwiches, soft drinks, ices and delectable.

270th Anniversary of Spanish Attack

Ever wondered what the Spanish attack in 1748 was like? On Sept 7, you can travel back in time to the 1700s and see the re-enactment of the harrowing attack between the Spanish privateers and the colonial militia. The Brunswick Town/ Fort Anderson State Historic Site will provide visitors with a day-in-the life experience where they can interact with costumed interpreters who portray both sides of the attack.

Stede Bonnet's 300th Anniversary Commemoration

It has been 300 years since Stede Bonnet plied the waters of the Cape Fear. Join the NC Maritime Museum at Southport and the City of Southport, along with pirate reenactors, the Loose Cannons and the Vigilant Crew, as we commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Battle of the Sandbars, the capture and the eventual hanging of Stede Bonnet.  There will be hands on activities, historic interpretation, and merriment suitable for all ages. On Friday night, party like a pirate at the Gentleman Pirate Tricentennial Dinner & Grog with Buccaneers. This catered event with sea shanties, a keynote address, and delicious victuals served up by the best galley around! Refreshments and music begin at 5:30 p.m. with keynote and dinner at 6:30 p.m.  All in the name of piracy, proceeds from this event go to help educational programming at the NC Maritime Museum at Southport. Appropriate for adults only. Call the museum for pricing and to register. On Saturday and Sunday, two full days of piracy will entertain, educate, and engross all ages. Join the Stede Bonnet 300th Living History Program: Hanging of Stede Bonnet and dress like a pirate, learn about life aboard vessel, and meet a few dashing swashbucklers. Don’t forget Stede’s demise on Sunday as we reenact the trial of the Gentleman pirate.

Southport Wooden Boat Show

See wooden boats of all shapes and sizes displayed in and around the historic Old Yacht Basin in Southport, NC. Visitors will be able to meet and talk with the wooden boat makers and owners and vote for their favorite boat. The event will also feature nautical and maritime arts and crafts vendors, nautical and maritime demonstrations, children's activities, and a special seafood chowder, the Taste of the Cape Fear.

U.S Open King Mackerel Tournament

The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament began over thirty-five years ago, when a small group of community leaders met and decided that they needed an event to showcase the great fall fishing in the Southport-Oak Island area. Today, the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament attracts close to 500 boats annually and is one of the largest kingfish tournaments on the east coast. The tournament has a guaranteed prize structure and in 2017, paid out over $271,000 in cash with 470 boats fishing the tournament.  The U.S. Open is part of the Southern Kingfish Association Mercury Tournament Trail.  The public is welcomed and can enjoy music, food and beverages.

Come hang out at the Sunset at Sunset to enjoy fabulous music, crafts and food all day. There will be live music by the Paul Grimshaw Band as well as more than 100 quality vendors, a Kid’s Korner and other fun all day long. End your day with a sunset viewing in front of the Ingram Planetarium on Sunset Boulevard.

38th Annual North Carolina Oyster Festival

Come join us for the 38th Annual North Carolina Oyster Festival to find out for yourself why the oyster is treasured by Brunswick’s County natives. A long-standing tradition, the festival brings together toe-tapping music, culinary delights, unique shopping and the regionally celebrated Oyster to thousands of tourists and locals each year. The festival will feature local cuisine, arts and crafts, children's activities, an oyster eating contest, shag competition, the Oyster Shucking Contest, and the delectable Oyster Stew Cook-off.

Kick off the 2-day North Carolina Festival by the Sea event with a parade down the Holden Beach causeway on Saturday, the only day of the year that you can walk across the Holden Beach bridge. Arts and Crafts vendors are open from 9 am - 5 pm on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Bring your family and enjoy horseshoe tournaments, sandcastle building contest, face painting, huge kites flying overhead and children's rides and amusements. Christmas Gift Show comes to Southport-Oak Island Area highlighting local retailers and restaurateurs bringing convenience to your holiday shopping. Visitors can shop-till-they-drop in one convenient location. In addition, attendees will have a chance to win a $300 just for registering at the event.

During the Christmas Gift Show, holiday wreathes and centerpieces will be available at a silent auction. A book drive will also be in full swing, where any book donation will automatically earn you one additional raffle ticket towards the $300 cash prize. Please bring books aimed for children in the 0-12 age range or word searches for our senior citizens.
