Brunswick Bird Watching 
Efforts to develop the North Carolina Birding Trail began in October 2003.  As of Summer 2009, the Trail is now complete across the entire state.  The coastal plain region, areas east of Interstate 95, presents the traveler with 102 birding sites organized in 16 groups across the North Carolina coast.  Listed below are the birding sites located in Brunswick County and the species of special interest specific to each one.    

Ev-Henwood Nature Preserve - Prothonotary Warbler, Swainson's Warbler, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting

Brunswick Town-Fort Anderson State Historic Site - Bald Eagle, Prothonotary Warbler, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Seaside Sparrow, Painted Bunting

Orton Plantation Gardens - Anhinga, White Ibis, Great Crested Flycatcher, Prothonotary Warbler, Blue Grosbeak, Painted Bunting

Boiling Spring Lakes Preserve - Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, winter sparrows

Southport Riverwalk & Pier - White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Seaside Sparrow, Painted Bunting, raptors, terns

Bald Head Island Conservancy - Wilson's Plover, Piping Plover, Sandwich Tern, Least Tern, Painted Bunting, wintering waterfowl
